Day Trips

From world-class skiing, bustling food and shopping districts, to casinos and golf courses, there’s endless adventures an easy drive from Sierra County.

Sierra County makes the perfect base camp for a wide variety of daytime adventures in the Tahoe National Forest of Northern California and beyond. Venture to the west, and you’ll find the quaint town of Nevada City and culturally rich Chico. Or travel along the historic SR 49, aka the Golden Chain Highway, with stunning views to the east. There you can stop to climb the Sierra Buttes lookout tower (not for the faint of heart) to see the awe-inspiring views of Mt. Lassen, and upper and lower Sardine Lakes. You can investigate the Donner Train Tunnels or traverse remote backroads by 4WD, or mountain bike, along the Pliocene Ridge. And just an hour from Sierra County you can bask in the stunning vistas around Lake Tahoe. There are endless options to explore!
